| Fuel fill pipe Tired of diesel baths? I have developed a fill pipe that can be inserted with no special tools. This pipe will hold either the small or large diesel fuel nozzels, without slipping out. This fill pipe is baffled so that the diesel will not shot out of the fill pipe, this allows for the tank tovent as it fills. | Pneumatic Valve The pneumatic valve that controls the cylinder to my entry step gave up theghost this year. I called BB for a replacement and cost. They gave me areplacement cost of $260.00 plus shipping. I thought I would shop around.The OEM valve was mfg by Ingersoll Rand. Their customer service said thevalve was no longer available through Ingersoll.They had sold that divisionto another company. After making further inquiries, I found the valve wasavailable from the new company at a cost of 228.00 plus shipping.I thought Iwould shop around some more. Looking in the Grainger Industrial Supplycatalog I found what I needed. This is an Alpha valve manufactured byIngersoll Rand. It is a double solenoid, 4 way, 2 position valve part#A212SD-012-D. The cost is $88.30 plus tax. This valve by the way is adirect crossover for the original valve.I would also recommend that aweather tight connector be purchased for the double coils on this valve. Aconnector with 36" molded wire is available from Grainger, part #2G503. Costis 10.01 plus tax, and two will be needed.The step control valve can be replaced for approx. $110.00. You may wish toadd flow controls on the exhaust ports of the above valve. These areavailable from Grainger, part #4ZJ85. The flow controls will let you adjustthe speed at which your step runs out/in. All of the above parts can be usedto replace the controls on the genset drawer. The part numbers here are for1/4" pipe size.Larry Holland |
| Koni Shocks ... I recently replaced the front shocks on my Blue Bird, with Koni, which is OEM. They can be special ordered from Pep Boys at a considerable savings. I'm not sure of the stock number but they should be able to get if for you. Ran about $315 for both. Also while they are adjustable, the came adjusted for proper setting. Made a big difference in the ride on my coach. |
| Docking Lights ... GE makes the docking lights. Wanderlodges generally are 100 watts, but 50 watts work well too. I found some 50 watts at Lowes Building Center for $11.95. GE calls these fog lights. Lowes or Home Depot would special order for you as well. |
| Cruse Control ... While most problems with this system is related to low voltage at the module, a failed component is a problem because manufacture of components stopped in 1999. 3-G productions can be a help with the Bendix system as they rebuilt the modules and will also rebuild the CC5 cylinder. | The Clippard air cylinder (86PT40) that is the safety lock for the front door air operated step is an expensive part. P/N B43-12-1 from BB is a custom part @ $80 plus shipping. Schrader-Bellows makes the same part with a little less spring force and threads on the shaft end. I purchased one and ground down the threaded end to match shaft shape of the Clippard shaft and it works fine. Price is about $19 at your local Schrader-Bellows distributor. |

| The electric curtain openers made by Graber Corp seem to be inoperative in most older coaches. In my case, this was only because the little rubber "drive tires" had grooves worn in them from years of opening and closing. If the curtain motors operate when you turn the switch on, chances are that's your problem also. There are three of these little wheels and tires on each opener. You only really need to change the center drive tire, as the other two are just for tension on the cord. Graber is now part of another company. These little rubber tires are available from Springs Window Fashions, 7549 Graber Rd, Middleton, WI (www.springs.com) 1-800-221-6352. |

| Fluorescent lite inverters ... The fluorescent lamps in my 1980 FC had short life. Real short. I found the problem was the inverters built into the fixtures were the problem. The chassis, inverter, and sockets, as a unit, is available from: RGM Industries The cost is $35 each plus shipping. RGM doesn't use credit cards, but will ship COD. I prefer to send them a check and save the COD charges. The part number for the unit is 15RF12, but be sure to specify you don't need the whole fixture, as there is no seperate part number. The new inverters seem to be much better than the 18 year old inverters! No more short lived lamps. |

| After paying $160 (from BB Parts) for a new one, I wrote to ARO Corp in Bryan, Ohio. They make the 'Air Relay Valve' that opens and closes the steps and pushes the generator in and out. ARO says they have a Re-build Kit for $25.00 (Part No.115750) for the 'older' model 5840 2929 02 valve on the 1983 coaches (at least). | Fewer little Bugs ... When in nice warm winter climbs, especially Florida, the darkness brought out the tiny small little nasty bugs that seem to come right through the screen. To alleviate the lively discussions in regard to fresh air and open windows vs closed windows and no bugs, I looked for an answer. Then came the light!! The light was coming through the window frame/screen area at the latch. Although the screen was intact, at the latch is a large area that bugs can enter at liesure. I took a 1/4 inch wide weatherstriping tape (sticky on one side) about 6 inches long and placed it in the track the full length of the latch in all our windows. Now I have fresh air with windows open and Rosemarie has it bug free. (Except for me that is.) ...From: HeeneyFW@aol.com |
